New antidepressants
In the past few years, many new antidepressants. Some of them are called «uptake inhibitors selective serotonin» (IIPS). Today in the UK you can buy such anti-depressants as fluoxetin (Prozac), fluvoxamin (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil) and sertralin (Zoloft). Although all of the anti-depressants IIPS distinguished by their structure, they affect the same specific neurotransmitter - serotonin. Two other antidepressants, affecting two neytrotransmittera - serotonin and noradrenaline - received approval from the Office of Health Surveillance of the quality of foodstuffs and medicines USA (FDA). These anti-depressants - venlafaxin (Effexor) and nefazodon (Serzone). All of these new drugs are less troublesome side effects than other tricyclic antidepressants.
Tricyclic anti-depressant clomipramine (Anafranil) also acts on serotonin, but in contrast to antidepressants IIPS, he does not act selectively. This is the first drug recommended for treatment of obsessive neurosis. Today, for the treatment of obsessive neurosis also recommend Prozac and Luvox.
Bupropion (Wellbutrin) - another brand new anti-depressant that is chemically no way associated with other antidepressants. It affects the noradrenaline and dopamine than on serotonin. Antidepressant Wellbutrin does not cause body weight or sexual disorders. It is contraindicated in persons with epilepsy and patients bulimia or anorexia nervosa.
